Clearview Council Meeting 2026-04-29

April 29, 2026 · Regular Council

Council held a public meeting to rubber-stamp a routine farm severance application on Concession 9. The request—to sever a surplus farmhouse and remove some old farm buildings—drew zero public comment and minimal questions from council. The whole thing wrapped in under an hour, with a staff recommendation heading to the May 11 council meeting.

Farm severance on Concession 9 clears public meeting with no objections

Planning · Minor

Council held a public meeting for a zoning amendment to allow the severance of a farmhouse at 5455 Concession 9. The proposal would split off a house and one silo from the rest of the farm, with an old barn and second silo slated for demolition. No one from the public showed up to comment.

The application, filed by John Arden, asks to rezone a portion of agricultural land to permit a surplus dwelling severance—standard procedure when consolidating farm properties.

The severed parcel will include an existing house and one silo. An old barn and another silo will be removed. The barn is reportedly falling down, and the silo sits too close to the property line. A new farm access will be added east of the house to maintain access to the remaining agricultural land.

Councillor Bean asked the only substantive questions: what happens to the barn, and how will the farm be accessed after the severance. Planner Danielle confirmed the barn straddles the new property line and will be torn down, and that a new laneway is planned.

Notice was mailed to neighbours within 120 meters on March 31. No one attended the public meeting. No written comments were received.

A staff recommendation will go to the May 11 council meeting, with the final bylaw to follow if approved. Councillor Van Stavern recused himself—a family member is involved with the application.

This is textbook farm consolidation: surplus house, aging structures, no controversy. The lack of public interest suggests neighbours either don't care or were fine with it.

The barn, I believe, is falling down. The silo is somewhat very close to the property line.
